SAFETY SYSTEMS AND CULTURE
We believe all workplace incidents are preventable through the systematic identification, elimination and control of hazards. Our ISO 45001 and ISO 9001 certified health, safety, and environmental system provides a compliance framework for risk and hazard management. Our in-house maintenance team ensure our fleet is safely well-maintained. Most importantly, we go beyond compliance to maintain an all-inclusive, positive safety culture.
Safety is the responsibility of all team members at Universal Cranes. We use the DuPont STOP program to encourage our team to engage in ongoing authentic conversations about health, safety and environment. The Stop, Think, Observe, and Plan approach is a behavioural-based safety program that facilitates a culture of hazard identification, elimination and control of an individual’s own work as well as that of their coworkers.
COMPETENCY MANAGEMENT
All crane operators, dogman and riggers hold current licenses of competency for the class of equipment they operate or activity they conduct, and have extensive industry experience. Company induction procedures ensure all personnel meet the required selection criteria prior to gaining employment. This includes reference, competency and medical checks. Competency based training and assessment is completed by all personnel for items of plant and equipment, risk assessment, hazard identification and company operational procedures.
COLLABORATION IN SAFETY
Universal Cranes has always maintained an open book approach to safety. We believe in sharing near misses and accident stories for the benefit of others in the industry, and as a learning tool for operators and riggers to help stop the same incidents being repeated.
